DNS (domain name system) is the phonebook of the internet, matching the web addresses we type into our browsers with an IP address so that users can reach the correct website. DNSSEC or DNS Security Extensions provides a level of additional security where a DNS resolver can check to make sure the DNS response it receives came from an authorized source has not been modified. The advantage of this solution is that the DNS infrastructure itself is no longer vulnerable to damaging attacks such as DNS cache poisoning or pharming.
