U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR SIGNS ON WITH SECURE64 DNSSEC APPLIANCE

Federal Agency Selects Market Leader to Meet OMB Mandate

DENVER – October 21, 2009 – Secure64 Software Corporation announced today that the U.S. Department of the Interior has purchased the company’s Secure64 DNS Signer product to meet the December 2009 OMB mandate requiring all federal agencies to add DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) to the DNS. The Domain Name System (DNS) is responsible for translating host names to IP addresses (and vice versa) and is critical for the normal operation of Internet-connected systems. The Department of Interior is the latest in a growing list of government agencies to select the Secure64 DNS Signer.

According to William Corrington, CTO for the Department of Interior, “DOI required a solution able to sign for the entire department, including all component bureaus and offices, so scalability was a factor in our decision. Even more importantly, we needed an automated product with the highest level of security to prevent signature forging. We selected Secure64 DNS Signer because it met all of our requirements and successfully completed a pilot deployment in three days.”

“The Department of the Interior has a lead role in preparedness for natural disasters, such as floods, wildfires, and earthquakes, in addition to managing the natural resources of the United States. The resiliency of their Internet communications is critical to meet these missions and the department has taken a leadership role in deploying an efficient and reliable IT architecture,” said Steve Goodbarn, CEO and Director of Secure64. “We are proud to be part of these efforts and to enable reliable, timely, and cost-effective deployment of DNSSEC.”

As part of its cyber security strategy, the United States Office of Management and Budget issued an OMB mandate that all federal agencies must implement DNSSEC by December 2009. For more information about DNSSEC, Secure64 DNS Signer and Secure64 DNS Authority, visit www.secure64.com.

SECURE64 DNS SIGNER EARNS FIPS 140-2 LEVEL 2 SECURITY CERTIFICATION

Product Meets Stringent Cryptographic Security Standards Required for Federal Agencies

DENVER – December 1, 2009 – Secure64 Software Corporation today announced that the company’s Secure64 DNS Signer appliance will receive FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC). Secure64 DNS Signer is the first commercial DNSSEC software appliance certified to Level 2. U.S. federal agencies are required to utilize only FIPS-certified products in any federal system that uses cryptography to protect sensitive or valuable information.

“This FIPS certification recognizes the security inherent in Secure64’s architecture, which is able to store sensitive information online safely. By combining this security with high speed cryptography, our DNSSEC signing software is able to offer better cryptographic security and performance than other software solutions without the added cost and complexity of cryptographic hardware,” said Steve Goodbarn, Secure64 CEO.

FIPS 140-2 is a NIST standard for cryptographic security that defines four levels of compliance ranging from Level 1 to Level 4. Level 1 certification provides assurance that the most basic security requirements have been met, while security requirements become more stringent as the certification levels increase. DNSSEC products use cryptographic digital signatures to protect the DNS, so FIPS 140-2 certification is a good measure of the degree of private key protection provided. No software cryptographic module has ever been certified to Level 3 or 4.

“FIPS certification is increasingly an important foundational technology requirement to drive adoption across the federal government marketplace,” said Rishi Sood, Research Vice President at Gartner.

Public key cryptography is commonly used in computer systems to ensure the authenticity, integrity or confidentiality of data communicated across a network. Trust in the security of network communications depends on the degree of security those computer systems provide to protect their cryptographic keys. Without sufficient security, messages could easily be forged or confidential information intercepted.

“Most of our competitors simply use the cryptographic module that ships with the underlying operating system, or an OpenSSL cryptographic module,” said Joe Gersch, Secure64 COO and nationally-recognized DNSSEC expert. “These modules may have been certified by NIST to Level 1, but the version of the module that was certified may or may not be the one actually used by the vendor. In contrast, Secure64 DNS Signer actually met the requirements for Level 3 in four of ten categories, and provides mitigation of attacks beyond what is required for certification. This means our software provides significantly more cryptographic security than any other commercial DNSSEC signing software available today.”

SECURE64 UNVEILS DNS SIGNING SOLUTION FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Secure64 DNS Signer – Small Enterprise Edition Provides Features and Functionality
of Secure64’s Award-Winning Solution at a Price Suited for Smaller Agencies

DENVER, CO – March 17, 2010 – Secure64 Software Corporation has unveiled a new DNS signing solution designed for the specific technical and budgetary needs of small and medium sized government agencies. Secure64 DNS Signer – Small Enterprise Edition fully automates Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) key generation, key rollover, zone signing and re-signing processes—with a price structure that fits within the IT budgets of small and medium-sized government departments and agencies.

DNS signing is a key requirement of the OMB mandate for all governmental agencies to make their DNS infrastructure more secure. Secure64’s DNS signing solutions are the first commercial products that automate the complex process of zone signing, reducing deployment and administration costs while eliminating errors that can cause domains to become unavailable. Secure64 DNS Signer – Small Enterprise Edition is based on Secure64’s original edition of DNS Signer, which won the Best Security Product award at FOSE 2009.

“Our original edition of DNS Signer is priced in a way that is ideal for large government agencies and departments that have significant DNS infrastructure and multiple zones to sign,” said Thomas Chalk, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Secure64. “This new edition of Secure64 DNS Signer has pricing that is ideally suited to agencies that have smaller DNS infrastructure and fewer zones to sign. We based this pricing structure on conversations with a number of our government customers, and we believe it will make this DNS signing solution very affordable for smaller-sized agencies.”

Chalk added, “Secure64 DNS Signer has been deployed by a number of high-profile federal agencies and has a 100 percent success rate in addressing their DNS zone signing needs. The product deploys quickly with no disruption and no need to change your organization’s existing infrastructure. It plugs in seamlessly and automates the complex zone signing and key rollover processes that are required to meet the OMB’s DNSSEC mandate.”

Secure64® DNS Signer makes it easy to implement DNSSEC securely and correctly. Signer runs on SourceT, Secure64’s malware-immune micro OS, so it is able to safely keep signing keys online and has achieved FIPS 140-2 level 2 certification. This allows full automation of all of the DNSSEC key management and signing processes. Unlike other DNSSEC solutions, Signer integrates into existing DNS infrastructure. It is fully compatible with Secure64 DNS Authority, BIND, Microsoft Windows 2008 r2 and NSD masters and slaves, so organizations do not have to throw away their existing DNS to deploy DNSSEC.

The Secure64 DNS Signer:

  • Deploys in days rather than months
  • Automates all key management activity securely
  • Offers compatibility with existing provisioning systems/slave architectures
  • Scales to millions of records and hundreds of thousands of zones
  • Supports highly dynamic environments with minimal signing latency
  • Utilizes a Genuinely Secure, Trusted Computing Platform

Secure64 DNS Signer – Small Enterprise Edition pricing starts at $19,995 and the solution is available immediately. For additional information, contact Secure64 at (303) 242-5890 or visit www.secure64.com/products.

SECURE64 RELEASES NEW VERSION OF DNS CACHING SOFTWARE

First Commercial Product to Support DNS64 for Service Providers Planning IPv6 Transitions

DENVER, CO – February 9, 2011
– Secure64 Software Corporation today announced the latest release of its popular caching software appliance — Secure64 DNS Cache v2.5 — the most secure caching name server software available. This new version provides support for DNS64, an emerging standard that provides service providers a simple way to transition to IPv6 networks. Secure64 DNS Cache is the first carrier-grade product to offer support for DNS64.

“Service provider revenue growth is driven by the ability to offer services to more and more consumer devices,” said Steve Goodbarn, CEO of Secure64. “Because IPv4 addresses are exhausted, service providers are embracing IPv6 in order to support new 4G smart phones, tablets and other IP-enabled devices. This is forcing organizations to make a difficult decision about the network architecture they will use to support both IPv4 and IPv6 – a decision that can have disastrous, long-term consequences if the wrong decision is made. The emerging DNS64 standard enables the transition to IPv6 while eliminating the costs and risks of other approaches. We are pleased to offer the first DNS caching product that supports DNS64.”

Many service providers are choosing to set up a pure IPv6 network between new end devices and the facility where the DNS server is located. DNS64 is a new protocol that allows the end user device to communicate only over IPv6, while still being able to access IPv4-only content on the Internet.

In addition to its support of DNS64, Secure64 DNS Cache now offers the following capabilities on top of its already IPv6 Forum Gold certified product:

  • Disable AAAA queries that come over IPv4 transport. This technique eases the transition to IPv6 for service providers choosing to implement dual stack architectures on their network composed of both IPv4 and IPv6. Certain large content providers such as Google and Yahoo are more willing to provide access to their content over IPv6 to service providers that have implemented this feature. Those that do not implement it risk providing a lower-quality experience to their users. By implementing this feature, service providers can ensure a high-quality experience for all of their users, regardless of whether they are using IPv4 or IPv6.
  • Refresh expiring ‘cached’ data to decrease latency on queries.
  • Non-stop restarts to help eliminate downtime when the server must be restarted. This feature allows service providers to more easily achieve five nines of availability.
  • Views – a feature that allows service providers to return different answers to different clients without having to run multiple servers.

Secure64 DNS Cache was first released in December of 2009. Since that time, the product has been selected for use by several tier one service providers. Secure64 DNS Cache is part of a suite of fully secure DNS products for caching, signing and authoritative use. Each product works to make the DNS highly available due to the company’s core technology, which resists high volume network attacks while maintaining 100% performance and availability. Secure64’s product suite is standards-based, so it fits into the existing DNS architecture without locking a company into a proprietary architecture. The company uses a software appliance model that provides automatic updates to eliminate time-consuming and expensive hardening and patching.

SECURE64 IMPLEMENTS DNS64 MIGRATION TECHNOLOGY AT LARGE U.S. WIRELESS PROVIDER

Quick and Cost Effective DNS64 Deployment Allows Wireless Operator to Support Rapid Growth of IP-Enabled Handsets

DENVER, CO – October 19, 2011 – With the depletion of IPv4 addresses already begun at some Regional Internet Registries, Secure64 Software Corporation today announced its DNS64 migration technology – available through its Secure64 DNS Cache software appliance – is being deployed at one of the largest U.S. wireless providers. The deployment is in support of the wireless provider’s fast-growing network of IP-enabled handsets and demonstrates the speed and return on investment of this approach to managing IPv4-to-IPv6 transitions.

“The rapid growth of IP-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets and mobile hotspots on 3G and 4G networks requires deployment of IPv6,” said Steve Goodbarn, CEO of Secure64. “We offer a lifeline to carriers that need to make the transition to IPv6 quickly, intelligently and cost effectively, so that customers enjoy the service they expect.”

Secure64 recommends that service providers employ current best practices which involve selecting a migration technology and then evaluating different products based on their support of that technology. These migration technologies include:

  • Dual stack – a migration technology where both IP protocol versions coexist in all parts of the network.
  • 6RD – an RFC-standardized migration technology that uses tunnels to provide IPv6 access for customers. The service provider core network is still IPv4.
  • Dual Stack (DS) Lite – a migration technology that is the mirror image of 6RD. 6RD uses an IPv4 core network with an IPv6 tunnel, whereas DS Lite uses an IPv6-enabled core with IPv4 tunneling.
  • DNS64/NAT64 – a migration technology that leapfrogs into IPv6, skipping complicated tunnels and dual-stacked networks. The basic idea is to create an IPv6-only network at the client side and translate any packets that need to reach the IPv4-only Internet. The fact that an IPv6-only network is created does not limit the client’s possibility to access IPv4-only content. The translators provide backwards compatibility.
Secure64 incorporated DNS64 migration technology because it operates on a simple, single-stack network, it is not compute-intensive to operate, and it eliminates the need for additional IPv4 addresses in order to scale.
“With several of the largest content providers rolling out IPv6 support soon, many service providers may find IPv6 being the primary mode of transport in the near future,” continued Goodbarn. “DNS64/NAT64 works very well for the ‘long tail’ of IPv4 content that is expected to steadily decrease on the Internet over the long term as IPv6 takes over.”
DNS64 is available through Secure64 DNS Cache, which offers the best performance-per-core of any DNS caching solution and the greatest protection against cache poisoning attacks due to its five layer defense architecture. It delivers five times the performance of open-source BIND software at half the price of other commercial solutions.

Secure64 DNS Cache’s performance and security advantages allow service providers to consolidate servers, improve end user responsiveness and protect users from debilitating DNS attacks, leading to increased customer loyalty, decreased churn and improved brand value.
